Allyson Update 3-26

Allyson is off the respirator as of right now. She is now on a machine called a C-PAP. This machine makes her breath on her own more. It is attached to her nose and has a hard time staying in place. Her face seems to look swollen because of the machine. She has the strap around her head and a very small cap to help everything stay on. She is very frustrated with all these things and it is hard for me to see her be this way. She might have to go back to the respirator because she might grow tired of trying to breath so much on her own. So far she has had the C-PAP for a day and a half. The doctors also have told me many times that she might go back on the respirator but that hasn't seemed to happen yet. They did an ultra sound of her heart yesterday and she seems to have some more pulmonary hyper tension. So they upped her nitric oxide from 1 to 5 and now it is 10. I have still not heard that they will take the C-PAP off and put the respirator back on. The nurses have said that most babies have a hard time with the C-PAP and have to be put back on the respirator. Then in the next cupple of days they try it again and repeate if necessary, Eventually the babies seem to learn how to breath on there own and are fine. I asked the nurse when I could start holding her and she told me that the ART line has to come out first. The ART line is a IV that is placed in the Artery. Its perpus is for the doctors to draw blood for blood gases. The nurse said that it will come out once she is breathing on her own. She will be able to have breast milk again on Monday. Yay. We Just take one day at a time.
